About The Position

As a Materials Technician, you will perform a wide variety of materials testing activities in accordance with our technical standards. This is a seasonal position with hours varying based on workload and project needs. Weekly hours will likely be heavier during construction season and much lighter in the winter. You will be responsible for performing materials testing work in the field and the laboratory as needed, including field density testing, concrete testing (air content, slump, temperature, making field strength specimens), recording test results, and advising the Lab Manager. You will also read and understand engineering plans, specifications, and details, prepare daily reports, and nurture client relationships. Additionally, you will practice mindful awareness of your activities and surroundings, follow all health and safety guidelines, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Detail orientation
  • Self-motivated, engaged, and team-oriented with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision

  • Confident, energetic, and flexible in order to perform in fast-paced environment and resolve challenges
  • Demonstrate verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Ability to obtain Portable Nuclear Gauge User Training

Responsibilities

  • Perform materials testing work in the field and the laboratory as needed.
  • Complete field density testing as required by contract specifications, and local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Test concrete for proper requirements including air content, slump, temperature, and the making of field strength specimens i.e., cylinders.
  • Record test results and advise Lab Manager of results.
  • Read and understand engineering plans, specifications, and details for quality assurance and to determine location and materials criteria.
  • Prepare daily reports and test results.
  • Nurture existing client relationships with a personalized, rural touch and humble and consistent communication, and by always doing the right thing.
  • Enforce and support our standards for consistent and superior client management and professional service delivery, as well as technical excellence.
  • Promote and contribute to the sharing of resources across the firm to ensure our overall goals and objectives are achieved.
  • Communicate regularly with and proactively advise the Lab Manager of any significant challenge.
  • Practice mindful awareness of your activities and surroundings, and follow all company, OSHA, federal, state, and local health and safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
