Battelle's Advanced Materials and Energetics Group is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Materials Scientist/Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will conduct laboratory experimentation, compile and analyze data, and perform literature searches under the guidance of a senior scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to apply materials science principles in a dynamic research environment, contributing to meaningful projects that support both commercial and government clients.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • 0–2 years of relevant work experience
  • Good laboratory practices and documentation skills
  • Ability to summarize results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats
  • Experience conducting laboratory work and searching technical literature
  • Sole U.S. Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to develop and contextually present information from numerous technical resources to support research objectives
  • Research experience in a materials science, chemistry, or chemical engineering setting, including experience with chemical handling
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, maintain accurate records, and follow instructions
  • Experience in engineering model development
  • Experience working with structured databases for data archiving
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software
  • Experience using computer programming languages to analyze complex data sets (e.g., Python, MATLAB)

Responsibilities

  • Support laboratory research and experimental activities across a range of materials science and engineering tasks.
  • Develop, construct, and execute laboratory experiments to advance research objectives.
  • Apply materials science theories to well-defined tasks with minimal oversight.
  • Compile and analyze design and test data to prepare product, process, or materials specifications.
  • Assist in the interpretation of results and composing sections of technical reports.
  • Conduct background research and searching technical literature to support project needs.
  • Perform basic engineering analysis of data collected through structured work assignments.
  • Summarize results in spreadsheets, written reports, and presentation formats.
  • Complete assigned project work within schedule and budget constraints.
