About The Position

The Materials Planner serves as a key liaison between Purchasing, Inventory/Receiving, Engineering, and Production. In this temporary role, you ensure that materials are available to meet operational needs by maintaining accurate inventory levels, coordinating material flow, and communicating effectively with suppliers and internal teams. You focus on executing core material planning activities that support a fast-paced manufacturing environment and help prevent production disruptions.

Requirements

  • Experience in material planning, inventory management, or supply chain operations (preferred).
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment (strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of inventory controls and planning parameters, including safety stock, reorder points, Kanban quantities, and order quantities.
  • Ability to manage inbound material schedules, anticipate shortages, and proactively expedite materials to avoid production disruption.
  • Experience using ERP or MRP systems to support material planning and inventory management.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency in data management and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work directly with vendors to confirm orders, resolve delays, and maintain consistent material flow.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for working with suppliers and cross-functional internal teams.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate inventory and planning data.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an accurate schedule of incoming materials to support operational demand and production plans.
  • Monitor material availability on an ongoing basis and proactively identify potential shortages or supply risks.
  • Expedite materials with suppliers when needed to prevent production delays or disruptions.
  • Monitor inventory levels to balance supply continuity with inventory targets and cost efficiency.
  • Review and adjust planning parameters such as safety stock levels, Kanban quantities, reorder points, and order quantities.
  • Partner closely with Inventory/Receiving teams to ensure timely and accurate receipt of materials.
  • Communicate regularly with suppliers to confirm order status, delivery schedules, and any changes to requirements.
  • Resolve issues that impact supply continuity, including delays, quantity discrepancies, or quality-related concerns.
  • Monitor supplier performance related to delivery reliability and responsiveness, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Use ERP/MRP systems to manage material requirements, update data, and support system-driven planning processes.
  • Maintain accurate data and reports using Excel and other tools to support decision-making and visibility into material status.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple material planning tasks in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and supporting production goals.
