About The Position

The Material Planner is responsible for planning, staging, controlling, and reconciling material usage to support uninterrupted production across all shifts. This role ensures material accuracy within the ERP/MRP system, proper line-side staging, compliance with ISO 13485 requirements, and continuous improvement of material usage, storage, and inventory accuracy.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Operations, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2–5 years of experience in material planning, material control, inventory management, or production support in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in regulated manufacturing required; medical device manufacturing preferred.
  • Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems (IQMS strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, inventory transaction accuracy, material reconciliation, and lot traceability.
  • Ability to interpret production schedules and translate them into accurate material planning and staging activities.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, 6S, and contamination control principles.
  • Forklift certified (or ability to obtain certification upon hire).
  • Experience safely handling raw materials in compliance with safety, quality, and contamination control requirements.
  • Effective communicator able to work cross-functionally with Production, Manufacturing, Program Management, Quality, and Purchasing.
  • Comfortable working in a shop-floor environment and supporting multiple shifts as required.
  • Ability to read, speak, understand and follow instructions in English.
  • Must be able to wear and properly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Candidates must be a “US Person” (i.e. US Citizen or Permanent Resident) to ensure Vaupell's compliance with ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations)

  • Medical device manufacturing experience preferred.
  • IQMS strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan material requirements for each production job based on schedules, Bills of Material (BOMs), and standard usage quantities across all shifts.
  • Stage materials at the appropriate production areas to support scheduled jobs, ensuring correct material, quantity, labeling, and timing.
  • Coordinate daily with Production Supervisors to align material staging with the production schedule.
  • Organize, monitor, and maintain material quantities and locations within the warehouse and production areas using the quality management system.
  • Ensure all material issues, returns, and transfers are accurately transacted in the quality management system to maintain inventory integrity and traceability.
  • Weigh and verify returned materials following production runs.
  • Compare actual material consumption to planned usage in the quality management system.
  • Adjust system quantities to reflect actual usage while maintaining proper documentation and audit readiness.
  • Investigate material usage discrepancies, including scrap, contamination, process losses, and materials not returned to inventory.
  • Partner with Production Supervisors and Manufacturing Management to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with Program Managers, Engineering, and Quality to review and update BOMs when material variances indicate inaccuracies.
  • Actively support continuous improvement of material standards and master data accuracy within the quality management systems.
  • Set, follow, and reinforce standards for proper material storage, staging, labeling, and handling to prevent contamination or misidentification.
  • Serve as a role model for 6S and lean material handling practices in warehouse and production areas.
  • Ensure material activities comply with ISO 13485 requirements, including traceability, documentation, and audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to validate inventory levels, ordering quantities, and lead times to support production requirements.
  • Proactively identify and communicate material shortages or excess inventory risks.
  • Responsible for following all established Vaupell policies, standard operating procedures and safety practices.
