About The Position

The Material Analyst I is responsible for the thorough analysis of materials, quantities, and associated costs to support proposal development and ongoing assessments of quantity and price variances. This role requires detailed evaluation of Bills of Materials (BOM) and collaboration with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Program Management, Sales, Procurement, and Finance, to accurately define material requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, charting, and macros (preferred).
  • Eligibility to access technology, materials, software, or hardware controlled by U.S. export laws.
  • Candidates must be a U.S. person as defined by U.S. export laws or be eligible for approval for a U.S. Government export license. A U.S. person includes a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
  • Ability to expedite and negotiate supplier proposals efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Background in materials finance/analysis, estimating, and planning, with strong analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Power BI.
  • Prior experience developing material cost proposals.
  • Knowledge of indentured Bills of Materials.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate across departments to ensure accurate material quantities are incorporated during the proposal phase, including engineering samples, testing samples, and production materials.
  • Assess material quantities in relation to manufactured output to determine component utilization and yield.
  • Develop comprehensive and precise cost estimates based on supplier proposals received.
  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of material management, purchase order (PO) administration, and BOM analysis.
  • Evaluate BOM for sourcing, identifying and selecting the most qualified and reliable suppliers for each component.
  • Apply critical thinking daily to optimize operational efficiency and process effectiveness.
  • Review historical pricing data to ensure accuracy and relevance in current proposal estimates.
  • Coordinate resolution of obsolescence issues between suppliers and Engineering, identifying suitable replacement or alternative parts as needed.
