About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the materials department, focusing on productivity, quality, safety, and employee development. The Materials Lead will monitor and coordinate resources, control inventory levels, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. They will also provide guidance and training to team members, communicate effectively with management and other departments, and uphold company safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED preferred.
  • Must be able to pass forklift certification training.
  • Must have a safe attitude; keep a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Must be available to work overtime, including Saturdays, if required by production schedule.
  • Must have the flexibility to work rotating shifts as necessary.
  • Must be able to work in a group or team setting or individual projects with little or no direction.
  • Must actively participate in and support Poindexter Production System (PPS); 5’s, Lean, and other Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
  • Lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Standing for long periods.
  • Bending, stooping, reaching, and squatting.
  • Repetitive handwork.
  • Climbing ladders or working at heights.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety policies and quality standards, aiming for zero defects.
  • Monitor loading, unloading, and checking in freight, assisting as needed.
  • Store and document freight in designated locations and deliver materials to production areas.
  • Record item numbers on unidentified received materials.
  • Utilize JDE for daily functions.
  • Maintain warehousing areas in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Count and organize part storage areas.
  • Provide materials for manufacturing.
  • Read and interpret written orders, specifications, and labels, including hazardous warnings.
  • Assist with physical inventory processes.
  • Provide guidance and on-the-job training to team members.
  • Adhere to company safety regulations and assist in training new team members on safety guidelines.
  • Actively participate and support PPS, 5S, and TPM initiatives.
  • Work required schedules, including overtime.
  • Work with little or no supervision.
  • Communicate with Production Supervisors and Team Leads on material shortages and fulfillment plans.
  • Communicate with Materials Manager on daily functions, department status, and personnel.
  • Support and provide backup for Materials Manager on daily functions and JDE transactions.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.
  • Ensure effective use and coordination of resources to accomplish goals while maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Control and reduce man hours.
  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of people and other resources (overtime, equipment, material, etc.).
  • Efficiently and effectively plan and execute daily work.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments.
  • Achieve line delivery goals (daily, monthly, on-time).
  • Monitor and control inventory levels to ensure appropriate availability and work-in-process levels.
  • Demonstrate creativity in approaches to safety, personnel, productivity, and quality problems.
  • Seek and develop new or improved processes for improved productivity and customer satisfaction.
  • Seek and develop solutions to problems.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to quality and the quality process, completing assignments accurately and thoroughly.

  • Enforce or follow safe work practices.
  • Achieve zero lost time injuries and reduce OSHA recordable injuries.

  • Utilize established programs and personnel to improve safety performance.
  • Display personal safety attitude and safety leadership.
  • Provide associates with objectives and standards, specifying results to be achieved.
  • Provide tools, training, and support as needed.
  • Provide a motivating climate supportive of each team member becoming fully competent.
  • Display and promote teamwork and effective communication within the Materials department and the company.
  • Deal quickly and effectively with associate issues/concerns.
  • Adhere to all legal and company policies and procedures.
  • Take an active interest in the training of all new and existing associates.

  • Perform performance coaching and counseling as required.
