Materials Lab Technician
About The Position
The specific vacancy is for a materials technician within the NOV ReedHycalog materials lab. The chosen candidate will help support sectioning, mounting, and polishing samples using various pieces of equipment to include friction chop saw, band saws, surface grinders, EDM's, mounting and polishing equipment. Responsibilities include the use of various microscopes, density testers, Scanning Electron Microscope, generating reports, and other assigned duties to support drill bits and Downhole product lines. The position requires mechanical aptitude and is hands on, requiring large portions of the day on your feet. Knowledge of downhole tools and oilfield processes is helpful. Previous experience with materials laboratory environments is required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 8 plus years in related field
- Primary location in Air Center
- Reports to materials laboratory manager
- Observes safety regulations, wears required safety equipment, encourages safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or reports them to Management.
- Work within established company guidelines
- Adheres to all HSE requirements
Nice To Haves
- Knowledge of downhole tools and oilfield processes is helpful.
- Previous experience with materials laboratory environments is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine quantitative and qualitative chemical or biological analysis to verify process conditions and compile research data.
- Record results, preform calculations, and prepare simple technical reports, including conclusions and recommendations.
- Preform sample preparation to include sectioning, mounting, and polishing.
- Assist with sectioning using bandsaw, surface grinder, Electronic Discharge Machine.
- Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
- Fabricate prototype and initial production
- Preform test and record results as directed
