About The Position

This position is with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 407th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Supply & Services Division located at Fort Hood, TX. Duties include operating a forklift capable of lifting loads weighing up to 10,000 pounds to load, unload, and move material over various surfaces. The role involves receiving, examining, and determining the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials. The incumbent will interpret procedures, technical manuals, and equipment drawings to verify equipment classification and understand general warehousing plans for stock in storage areas. Responsibilities also include assuring items to be shipped/issued are properly marked, tagged, and/or over packed in suitable containers, and following general safety practices in operating equipment and performing operator's maintenance.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Appointment is subject to a one-year probationary period unless previously completed.
  • Covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of vehicle being driven.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid forklift license.
  • Must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in written application materials, sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision.
  • Skilled in receiving various types of materials, equipment, and components.
  • Skilled in complying with established procedures to pack materials/items for shipment or storage.
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc.
  • Dexterity and Safety
  • Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order)
