Clifton is currently searching for a Field Technician / Technologist to join our Calgary office and assist with a variety of field projects in AB, BC, SK, and surrounding areas. As part of our Materials Engineering Practice Team, you will assist in the delivery of high-quality field and laboratory testing services.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of civil materials testing experience. Completion of a Civil Engineering Technology diploma an asset but not required.
  • Must have a valid Class 5 Canadian Driver’s License (no GDL) and provide a clean Driver’s Abstract as a condition of employment.
  • CCiL/CSA certification is preferred. Training will be provided to obtain certification, if required.
  • Ability to work independently on site, outside, on a variety of local, remote, and out-of-town project and construction sites.
  • Ability to lift and move items and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs is required.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including long hours (up to 12 hours per day), night shifts and/or weekends, for potentially extended periods of time, as projects needs dictate.
  • Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities, with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to assess and initiate tasks independently, review and interpret results, and collaborate with the project team, as required.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word and Excel).
  • Contribute to a positive work environment, conducting oneself in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Knowledge of HSE guidelines and safe work practices, with a proven ability to contribute to a safe and respectful work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Completing a variety of on-site materials testing services (concrete, soil, and asphalt) including field and lab sampling, testing and documentation for quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) purposes.
  • Performing field work at various local and remote project and construction sites where the ability to lift and move items and equipment weighing up to 50lbs is required.
  • Submitting accurate, detailed, and timely digital and physical project paperwork daily.
  • Applying knowledge of CSA and ASTM testing methods and standards in conjunction with project standards and requirements to support project delivery and handle non-conformance issues.
  • Liaising with internal project managers, external contractors, and client representatives to provide high quality service to all stakeholders on the project.
  • Complying with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) guidelines, ensuring adherence to all applicable legislation, standards, and Clifton’s own health and safety policies.
  • Performing other duties, as assigned.
