About The Position

HEICO is seeking a Materials Engineer for a full-time direct hire position in Hollywood, FL. The Materials Engineer is responsible for evaluating materials and processes to manufacture materials for use in products that must meet specialized design and performance specifications. This role involves developing new uses for known materials, including those working with composite materials or specializing in one type of material, such as graphite, metal and metal alloys, ceramics and glass, plastics and polymers, and naturally occurring materials. The position also includes analyzing product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Science Materials Engineering or related field required.
  • At least 1 year of related work experience preferred.
  • Familiar with Material Testing Techniques.
  • Familiar with Materials Laboratory Equipment.
  • Excellent written/oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • MS Office; Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to analyze all aspects of a situation to gain thorough insight to make decisions.
  • Ability to work cooperatively through complex materials issues.
  • Excellent organization skills; ability to prioritize; ability to meet deadlines and strong sense of urgency; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Knowledge of Materials Sample preparation, Etching and evaluation of metallographic specimens of bar stock, blade forging and aircraft parts (metallic and non-metallic materials); knowledge of Preparation techniques, and examination of metallurgical specimens including polishing, SEM or optical microscope evaluation, hardness testing, grain size evaluation, among others.

Responsibilities

  • Perform reverse engineering on non-production parts in order to develop production specifications and Quality Test Procedures, as well as Parts Manufacturing Authority reports for the FAA.
  • Conduct Research and Development Analysis of materials to assist with Business Unit’s New Product Development Process.
  • Provide Technical support to customers, laboratory staff when needed.
  • Assist on materials analysis process for production parts to ensure conformity to specifications (grain size and flow, abusive machining, hardness, chemistry, etc.) when needed.
  • Assist with development and write-up of Quality Test Procedures detailing required preparation and testing of incoming materials when needed.
  • Keep current with the latest in materials analysis techniques and equipment technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
