About The Position

We are seeking a Materials Engineer to focus on the evaluation of materials in new and service run GT components. Viable Engineering Solutions is a world-class concept-to-completion center for the industrial market. We take Research and Development to the next level providing rapid prototyping, robotics, automation, and non-destructive testing solutions in our state-of-the-art concept-to-completion facility. We are located in Orlando in the heart of the Central Florida Research Park.

Requirements

• BS in Materials, Ceramics, Mechanical or related technical field.
• Minimum 3-5 years' related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Understanding of failure analysis of parts made of superalloy and steel materials.
• Knowledge of materials and metallurgy of steels superalloys and coatings and their chemistry, microstructure, heat treatments, and service degradation modes.
• Knowledge of mechanical, physical, and environmental testing; materials data analysis.

Nice To Haves

• Work experience in a manufacturing / lab environment preferred.
• Understanding of gas turbine coatings is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Investigation of service component condition through visual and non-visual methods.
• Failure/Fracture surface characterization identifying the locations and fracture modes.
• Expert in microstructural characterization (optical microscopic, SEM, EDS, etc.).
• Chemical analysis practices and requirements.
• Characterization of material systems for high performance applications (superalloys, high temperature metallics and ceramic coatings, intermetallics, stainless steel).
• Participate in failure analysis activities.
• Communication with internal and external customers.
• Writing of internal and external Technical Reports, presentations, purchase specifications, and process specifications.
• Define and manage project schedule and budget.
• Support of product qualification, procurement, and material substitution.
