As our Materials Engineer Intern, you will provide the Materials Engineering group with hands-on, technical and administrative support of Materials Engineering functions. A basic understanding of metallurgical principles is desired, including material properties, materials testing, phase transformation and heat treating. Attention to detail and thoroughness of work are critical. This position reports to the Materials Engineering Manager.

Requirements

  • Enrollment into a Materials Science and Engineering BS program.
  • Attention to detail and self-motivation to complete tasks thoroughly.
  • Strong verbal skills and clear, concise compositional skills.
  • All candidates must be U.S. citizens.
  • Selected applicants are required to successfully complete a pre-employment check and drug screening.
  • The position may require the ability to obtain and maintain applicable federal eligibility requirements for access to classified/sensitive information or matter which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test, previous employment, and reference verifications.

Responsibilities

  • Metallurgical laboratory support, including metallographic preparation and analysis, SEM, and limited chemical and mechanical testing.
  • Hands-on and administrative support of materials-related projects/studies/investigations including forging, thermal processing, plating, corrosion and cleaning processes.
  • Hands-on heat treatment of tooling and R&D material.
  • Interpret/understand material, processing and testing specifications/standards.
  • Research and understand metallurgical phenomena.
  • Materials-related data analysis and database creation/management.
  • Work with Materials, NDE, Quality, Purchasing, Floor Supervisors/Personnel and Suppliers as needed.
