Materials Engineer I

Analytical Mechanics Associates•Hampton, VA

About The Position

Analytical Mechanics Associates (AMA) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Materials Testing Engineer to support the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract at NASA Langley Research Center. The work focuses on developing faster, more comprehensive characterization methods for ceramic matrix composite (CMC) materials to support safe, reusable supersonic and hypersonic flight vehicles. Tasks include assisting with a micro-X-ray computed tomography (CT) machine, CT reconstructions, porosity analysis, digital volume correlation, and mechanical testing. The project also aims to build new material-property databases using AI/ML and data collected through digital volume correlation; candidates with AI/ML skills are strongly preferred. The role involves laboratory testing of materials and coatings, AI/ML software development, data collection and analysis, and hands-on work with experimental setups, instruments, and test equipment. The engineer will collaborate with engineers and researchers to evaluate materials and AI/ML performance. The stated annual pay range is $60,000 to $75,000, depending on experience, education, and location. U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required. AMA describes itself as a small business headquartered in Hampton, Virginia, with operations in several U.S. locations and more than 60 years of experience in aerospace engineering, science, analytics, information technology, and visualization.
