About The Position

E Ink is seeking a Materials Characterization Engineer that is responsible for performing routine and advanced analytical measurements on materials used in E Ink displays, including particles, colloidal dispersions, polymers, inks. This role combines hands-on laboratory work with analytical method development and continuous improvement of characterization techniques. Working closely with senior scientists, you will help answer fundamental questions about material behavior, investigate unexpected experimental results, and develop analytical methods that deepen our understanding of material and process performance. We are looking for someone who enjoys asking "why," is driven to uncover root causes, and is motivated by learning how materials behave.

Requirements

  • B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in analytical chemistry, materials characterization, or a related laboratory environment.
  • Naturally curious with a passion for understanding the science behind material behavior rather than simply generating data.
  • Enjoys asking questions, challenging assumptions, and exploring the underlying mechanisms behind experimental observations.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented laboratory scientist who takes pride in producing accurate and reliable data.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
  • Collaborative team player who enjoys working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples, routine characterization of particles, inks, and formulations using analytical instrumentation.
  • Investigate unexpected analytical results, identify root causes, and propose follow-up experiments to deepen understanding of material and process behavior.
  • Work with Sr. scientists to develop, optimize, validate, and standardize analytical test methods, design and perform Gage R&R.
  • Improve existing analytical methods to increase measurement accuracy, repeatability, throughput, and robustness.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate analytical instruments to ensure reliable and reproducible measurements.
  • Analyze data and document results in laboratory notebooks and technical reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and documentation in accordance with EH&S and laboratory best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional R&D.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures and contribute to a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.
