About The Position

GEMTEC is a growing, employee-owned engineering and environmental consulting firm with offices across Atlantic Canada and Ontario. We're looking for a motivated, hands-on Materials and Geotechnical Technician/Technologist to help make sure the ground, concrete, and asphalt behind our region's infrastructure are built to last. We currently have openings for Materials and Geotechnical Technician(s)/Technologist(s) in our Saint John office. The ideal candidate has some experience in general construction, is comfortable moving between outdoor fieldwork and lab settings, and brings curiosity and attention to detail to everything they do.

Requirements

College diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or a related field).
Two years' experience in civil construction.
Experience with materials testing and inspection.
Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Strong multi-tasking, organization, and planning skills.
Comfortable lifting 30–50 lbs on a regular basis.
Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle required for work-related travel.

Responsibilities

Laboratory testing of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
Field testing and sampling of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
A mix of office, laboratory, and field work across materials testing and geotechnical engineering projects.
Conduct construction surveys to support engineering projects.
Work alongside engineers, technologists, and project teams to keep projects moving.
Communicate project updates, milestones, and potential issues to clients in a clear and professional manner.
Other duties as required; no two days look quite the same.
