About The Position

As a Material Services Specialist supporting Central Supply at Howard University Hospital, you will keep clinical operations moving by ensuring the timely and accurate distribution of supplies, equipment, and materials to assigned inpatient and procedural units. Reporting to the Manager of Material Management, you will be a vital partner to nursing, physicians, and ancillary teams, helping the people on the front line have what they need, when they need it.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. required
  • One (1) year of distribution or materials handling experience in a hospital or medical facility (or related experience) preferred
  • Working knowledge of materials management policies, operations, and procedures
  • Familiarity with stocking, inventory, and supply tracking
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and exercise sound judgment on detailed assignments
  • Strong customer service skills, with a courteous and professional manner toward patients, guests, and coworkers
  • Time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks within tight timeframes
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Physical ability to walk and stand for extended periods (approximately 90% of shift), lift up to 35 lbs, and lift or carry items 35 lbs or greater using equipment

Responsibilities

  • Receive material, conduct daily inventory counts (cycle counts), pull replenishment stock from main inventories, and deliver to designated locations across assigned clinical areas
  • Deliver received material directly to end users on established schedules
  • Stock and re-stock to set par levels through the automated Supply Distribution System or non-automated stock locations as required
  • Use technology to order, receive, and process material as needed
  • Inspect consumable supplies for proper labeling, expiration, and intact packaging
  • Communicate professionally with clinical staff, patients and families, physicians, and vendors
  • Assist the Materials Manager and Supervisor with inventory control activities
  • Maintain the safety, security, and cleanliness of Materials Management areas and the loading dock by clearing containers, trash, and debris
  • Complete and submit daily paperwork related to replenishments and issues, with attention to accuracy and full identification of work performed
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, HIPAA, the Howard University Code of Ethics, and Health Sciences Standards of Conduct
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patients, families, and staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the scope of this role
