About The Position

The Material Planner I role ensures product availability for Woodstream customer demands while maintaining effective inventory management for the organization, and plans several hundred items and directly purchases and places orders for more than 15 million dollars on an annual basis. This position exercises discretion and independent judgment to determine what to purchase, the quantities, and when to purchase/schedule items, evaluating trade-offs among cost, lead time, supplier capacity, and inventory objectives on matters of significant financial impact to the organization.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Business, Management, or other related discipline.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in a planning / purchasing environment.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their use in a manufacturing environment.
  • High degree of data management and financial analysis skills; with ability to draw and communicate conclusions that are actionable.
  • High degree of problem-solving skills
  • Highly proficient MS Office skills with Excel, Power Point, Word, and OneNote.
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Nice To Haves

  • CPSM or APICS certification a plus.
  • SAP experience highly desirable
  • Power BI experience a plus

Responsibilities

  • Creates the purchase order/production plans which are critical to ensure product is available for customer orders and for the organization’s inventory management, as well as shop floor management.
  • Evaluates plant/supplier capacity and exercises independent judgment to determine and place purchase/production orders accordingly
  • Confirms purchase order acknowledgements which are required to complete the purchase order binding agreement with our suppliers.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date purchase order quantities and delivery dates in the system
  • Authorizes and releases purchase orders, committing the organization to binding financial obligations with suppliers, and confirms all purchase orders have been acknowledged by the supplier for quantity, delivery date, delivery and cost.
  • Monitors shop floor production schedules to ensure schedules are being followed. Must ensure customer product demands are met and that the production of goods at our factories/suppliers are timely.
  • Analyzes MRP signals and exercises independent judgment to determine whether to expedite, de-expedite, or deviate from system recommendations for purchase/production orders, based on evaluation of customer priorities, supplier performance, and inventory risk.
  • Manages and negotiates with suppliers, exercising independent judgment to resolve issues and ensure proper & timely execution of Woodstream production requirements.
  • Interacts with the shop floor to ensure production is completed in accordance with the shop floor schedule.
  • Leads projects related to rework or repacking of products to resolve issues such as product or packaging quality issues, slow moving inventory and customer returns.
  • Interacts with Customer Care to maintain organizational awareness of product availability.
  • Resolves inventory discrepancies within Woodstream facilities and outside suppliers to maintain inventory and cost accuracy.
  • Uses the MRP system as a tool to develop the materials/production plan, applying independent analysis to validate, adjust, and override system outputs as conditions warrant.
  • Independently assesses customer demand shifts and determines when to expedite or de-expedite purchase orders and/or production.
  • Works with Sourcing to assist in the development of supplier relationships.
  • Maintains, monitors, and reports the Supplier KPI Performance Scorecard to improve delivery and lead time performance.
  • Maintains and consistently follows Engineering Change Record signoffs that impact any planning functions.
  • Lead regularly scheduled calls with Factories/key suppliers within assigned Supply Chain.
  • Update and send monthly forecast file and open purchase order reports
  • Works closely with other departments within Woodstream (Quality, Transportation, Operations Finance, Product Management, Customer Care, Marketing)
  • Review and manage KPIs and exception reports, daily
  • Performs other duties as assigned
