About The Position

The Material Manager will be responsible for researching and evaluating suppliers, negotiating contracts, analyzing price proposals, and maintaining records of purchased items, costs, deliveries, and inventories. This role involves writing and reviewing product specifications, maintaining vendor relationships, and collaborating with operations and management on budgets. The Material Manager will also formulate policies and procedures for procurement, evaluate contract performance, track inventory metrics for efficiency, and monitor compliance with laws and regulations. The work environment is primarily an office/production warehouse, requiring incumbents to perform various tasks with or without accommodation, including extended periods of sitting or standing, using business tools, focusing on tasks, reviewing documents, wearing PPE, navigating the facility, responding to alarms, and performing physical tasks such as reaching and lifting materials up to 10 pounds or heavier with equipment.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Material management, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (Infor Visual)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of precision machining processes, inventory control, and job shop environments is highly preferred.
  • Hands-on, detail-oriented, and proactive.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, small to mid-size manufacturing operation.
  • Familiar with lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.

Responsibilities

  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.
  • Negotiate, renegotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers, vendors, and other representatives.
  • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.
  • Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, deliveries, product performance, and inventories.
  • Write and review product specifications, maintaining a working technical knowledge of the goods or services to be purchased.
  • Maintain Vendor relationships and all manufacturing supplies, outside services and materials.
  • Work with all Operations, Business manager and supervisors on budgets.
  • Formulate policies and procedures for bid proposals and procurement of goods and services.
  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and to determine need for change.
  • Track inventory metrics that lead to more efficient operations.
  • Monitor and follow applicable laws and regulations.
