About The Position

The Material Handler at Belden/Alpha Wire is responsible for safely and efficiently moving materials within our job shop wire and cable manufacturing plant using forklifts, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment. This role supports our production team by ensuring timely delivery of raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods to designated areas while maintaining accurate inventory records.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with supervisors and documenting material movements.
  • Basic math skills for inventory counts and weight calculations.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, including forklift operation.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally handle loads up to 100 lbs with equipment.
  • Prolonged standing, bending, and walking in a fast-paced manufacturing plant environment.
  • Comfortable working in a noisy environment with exposure to moderate temperature variations.
  • Availability to work 1st shift (7:00-3:00pm), and occasional overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with warehouse management systems or inventory tracking software is a plus.
  • Valid forklift operator certification (OSHA-approved) preferred.
  • Fork Truck Certification? (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Read Shop Orders and Manufacturing Specifications to determine machine setup, required materials, and production quantities.
  • Move Work-in-Process (WIP) materials between production areas and designated hold areas for subsequent operations.
  • Collect empty skids from the production floor and stack them in designated areas (maximum stack height of 7 skids).
  • Move scrap containers from the production floor to designated areas.
  • Load tape racks (maximum weight of 100 lbs) and color chips into hoppers.
  • Transport raw materials from the warehouse to designated machines using forklifts in accordance with picklists.
  • Assist operators by lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) manually or with a forklift.
  • Verify shop paperwork against physical products to ensure accurate movement of materials between operations.
  • Weigh and document all materials returned to the warehouse before restocking.
  • Record material movements accurately on picklists and update inventory records in the warehouse management system.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks on forklifts and report any issues to maintenance staff.
  • Operate all machinery in compliance with OSHA safety standards and company policies.
  • Empty trash containers to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Follow supervisor instructions for additional material handling tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with production team members to ensure smooth workflow in our 55-employee facility.
