About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for maintaining an orderly warehouse, supplying assembly and fabrication operations with component parts and raw materials in a timely manner, and maintaining accurate inventory records. This position places the utmost importance on safety. While operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment, the Material Handler must remain alert, cautious, and aware of surrounding employees, equipment, and conditions.

Requirements

  • Strong basic math, reading, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use computers and inventory-related systems accurately.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage conflicting demands.
  • Ability to read and interpret general plant rules, safety requirements, operating and maintenance instructions, standard operating procedures, ISO documentation, and work instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups in a team environment.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers and decimals.
  • Exceptional accuracy when counting, weighing, calculating, and recording inventory.
  • Ability to understand and carry out written, verbal, and diagram-based instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems involving multiple variables and changing situations.
  • Ability to use deductive reasoning to identify the root causes of inventory discrepancies.
  • Willingness to cross-train and perform the essential duties of each assigned warehouse work area.
  • Current forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification as required.

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of related warehouse, inventory, manufacturing, or material-handling experience or training preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Receive fabricated and purchased parts into inventory.
  • Verify quantities against receiving documentation and visually inspect parts for quality or damage.
  • Select appropriate stocking locations and complete the required system transactions to place materials into inventory.
  • Select appropriate containers, repackage materials when necessary, and ensure all containers are properly labeled before storage.
  • Restock bins with consumable and free-stock items and accurately record the associated inventory transactions.
  • Generate kit pickers for assembly work orders and verify the availability of the required parts.
  • Pull, label, record, and complete system transactions for parts issued through kit pickers.
  • Weigh, count, and record materials issued to fabrication work orders.
  • Provide hands-on forklift training to employees seeking forklift certification, as assigned.
  • Perform cycle counts and bin checks throughout stocking and work-in-process locations.
  • Enter cycle-count results and investigate inventory discrepancies to identify and correct root causes.
  • Process returned goods authorization receipts and supplier scrap returns.
  • Complete and maintain forklift safety inspection checklists.
  • Operate company forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Create requisitions, packing slips, and other warehouse documentation as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse and work area.
  • Follow all plant safety rules, standard operating procedures, work instructions, and quality requirements.
