The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, or other stock items and distribute items to production areas, and assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets. Additionally, the role requires marking materials with identifying information, opening bales, crates, and other containers, and recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed. Weighing or counting items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standards is also a key responsibility. The Material Handler will be certified to drive material handling equipment and transport stored items within the warehouse. Loading and unloading trailers of palletized and non-palletized product using manual and automated material handling equipment is expected. The role also emphasizes practicing and adhering to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection, keeping the work area clean, and removing trash. Maintaining clear work area aisles/exits and following instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights, and identifying/reporting defective equipment are crucial. Reporting all job-related injuries to supervision is mandatory. The Material Handler will take photos of incoming or outgoing loads and log items and pictures for documentation, and use a computer to enter records. Where applicable, the role may involve climbing and working at heights of material tanks, and climbing on top or into tank trailers to check seals and take samples. Preparing and taking a cycle count inventory of all merchandise and recording counts on cycle count sheets may also be required. Mandatory overtime may be required. The role supports and participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S (sort, set, shine, standardize, and sustain). Other duties may be performed as required.
