About The Position

The Material Handler supports Cooper Steel's goals, values, and philosophy by exhibiting excellence, quality service, commitment, and accountability. As a member of the Cooper Steel team, performance includes demonstration of communication, teamwork, job knowledge, and leadership. The Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes and forklifts to move material around the shop in a safe and efficient manner, and learning proper rigging and loading techniques.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; ability to work effectively with others.
• While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach.
• Lifting is required up to 75 lbs.
• Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment.
• Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience in a similar role is preferred

Responsibilities

• Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
• Read and understand load list to calculate material size and length when loading
• Understand units of measure, general mathematical equations
• Operate equipment / machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yard
• Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain in good working order
• Other duties as assigned
