The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking, and distributing material and products within the establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, assemble customer orders, mark materials with identifying information, and open bales, crates, and other containers. Recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed, and weighing or counting items for distribution within the plant are also key duties. The role requires certification to drive material handling equipment, transporting stored items within the warehouse, and loading/unloading trailers of palletized and non-palletized product. Utilization of manual and automated material handling equipment, adherence to safety and hygiene guidelines, and maintaining a clean work area are essential. This includes keeping aisles clear, following instructions for safe lifting, reporting defective equipment and job-related injuries, and taking photos of loads for documentation. The Material Handler will use a computer to enter records and may be required to climb and work at heights of material tanks or on tank trailers to check seals and take samples. Cycle count inventory may also be performed. Mandatory overtime may be required, and the role supports Continuous Improvement initiatives like 5S. Other duties may be performed as required.
