It also returns leftover materials and labels to their appropriate locations, maintains production standards and a neat work area, reports production, quality, or safety issues, assists with training new material handlers, and follows company rules and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • Ability to move rolls weighing more than 1,000 pounds, including pushing, pulling, and sliding them into position.
  • Ability to follow procedures and documents.

Responsibilities

  • Check the schedule and retrieve the recap from the master recap stand; review it thoroughly for accuracy and immediately report errors or discrepancies to the department supervisor.
  • Complete the correct documentation, such as machine sheets, shortage reports, and meters.
  • Pull materials to machines, verify that operators have the correct materials, and call for the mechanic. For a new bindery job, place a copy of the master recap with the roll at the machine.
  • In bindery, periodically check the small job rack for rolls of small jobs or samples to be run; sign them out on the log and advise the supervisor that samples are available for setup.
  • Move the correct materials from the warehouse or staging area to machines in a timely manner so operators do not run out; advance order material through the kanban system.
  • Return leftover materials from machines to the appropriate warehouse location with a recap; remove binding straps, open boxes when necessary, dispose of packaging properly, and consolidate skids containing the same material.
  • Maintain production standards.
  • Coordinate label requirements to ensure batches and tiers of sort are run in the correct mail-date order.
  • Return remaining labels from jobs removed from machines before completion to label staging, and return remaining materials to the warehouse, with a recap accompanying both.
  • Immediately report production, quality, or safety problems to the department supervisor.
  • Keep the work area neat and clean.
  • Assist in training new material handlers.
  • Remove scrap materials from the immediate area and dispose of them properly.
  • Comply with company rules, regulations, and procedures.
