About The Position

DRS Pivotal Power, Inc. is seeking a temporary Material Handler for their Bedford, Nova Scotia facility. This role, reporting to the Inventory Manager, is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate inventory levels to support efficient production and operations. The Material Handler will ensure materials are correctly received, stored, issued, and recorded in the system. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience with inventory management systems in a fast-paced manufacturing/production environment. This is a temporary, on-site role expected to last 12-18 months.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid forklift certification is required or must be obtained.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Effective team player with the ability to foster strong working relationships.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Strong time management abilities with the capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable handling multiple assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and Word.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) systems is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory records through regular data entry, audits, and reconciliation in the MRP system.
  • Receive, inspect, and verify incoming materials and components for quantity, quality, and accuracy against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
  • Ensure all received materials are properly labeled, tagged, and stored in designated inventory locations according to established procedures.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and assist with full physical inventory to ensure data integrity and identify discrepancies.
  • Investigate inventory variances, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with Planning and Purchasing to address shortages, overstock, or obsolete items.
  • Issue material kits to the production floor in alignment with work orders and production schedules, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of components.
  • Track all material movements, transfers, and adjustments in the inventory management system.
  • Maintain clear labeling and proper storage practices to ensure traceability and compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Receiving, Planning, and Production teams to ensure seamless material flow and operational efficiency.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks to transport items safely throughout the facility.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to inventory accuracy, storage efficiency, and material handling processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and organizational policies in all inventory activities.
