The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequences. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, assemble customer orders, and mark materials with identifying information. Responsibilities include opening bales, crates, and other containers, recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed, and weighing or counting items for distribution to ensure conformance to company standards. The role requires driving material handling equipment, transporting stored items within the warehouse, and loading/unloading trailers of palletized and non-palletized product. The Material Handler will utilize manual and automated material handling equipment and practice appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection. This includes keeping the work area clean, removing trash, keeping aisles clear, and following instructions for safe lifting. The role also involves reporting all job-related injuries, taking photos of loads for documentation, and using a computer to enter records. Where applicable, the role may involve climbing and working at heights of material tanks or climbing on/into tank trailers to check seals and take samples. Preparing and taking cycle count inventory may also be required. Mandatory overtime may be required, and the employee will support and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S.
