About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for moving aluminum castings, scrap hoppers, packaging, WIP castings, and finished goods throughout the plant as required. Material Handlers are accountable to keep all areas organized and clean. This role involves keeping production workstations stocked with necessary materials, detecting and reporting forklift conditions, ensuring materials are in designated areas, and following supervisor instructions for short-term requirements. The position also includes loading and unloading trailers and trucks, completing daily paperwork, maintaining a clean work area, and working safely around heavy equipment. Regular attendance and adherence to company policies, quality, and safety standards are expected. Participation in continuous improvement activities and maintaining an active MIOSHA Forklift Operators Permit are also key aspects of the role. Building positive relationships, working cooperatively in a team environment, and communicating effectively with associates and between shifts are essential. Assisting with unloading finished goods boxes from conveyors to optimize operator productivity is also part of the duties.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Forklift experience required.
  • Possess good physical stamina and coordination.
  • Ability to continuously and repetitively sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to continuously and repetitively read standardized work instructions.
  • Ability to continuously and repetitively operate forklifts.
  • Ability to continuously and repetitively wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and steel-toed safety shoes.
  • Ability to work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
  • Ability to continuously and repetitively bend, push, pull, twist, and reach to perform work.
  • Ability to see clearly at close and distance ranges, distinguish colors, maintain peripheral vision, perceive depth, and adjust focus as necessary.
  • Ability to use hand positioning to grip/grasp controls of forklift or other equipment.
  • Ability to frequently and repetitively walk and stand.
  • Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds and periodically care or lift materials weighing up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally kneel, crouch, or crawl to perform work.
  • Recognizes potential exposure to environmental, mechanical, chemical, electrical, and explosive hazards.

Responsibilities

  • Keep production workstations stocked with material needed to produce.
  • Detects and reports improper conditions or operations of forklift and requests maintenance as appropriate.
  • Ensure all materials are kept in their designated storage area.
  • Report any concerns regarding the organization of areas to your immediate supervisor.
  • Follows instructions from supervisor to adapt to any short-term requirements.
  • Load and unload trailers and trucks as required.
  • Properly completes daily paperwork.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area consistent with safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Work safely around and/or while operating heaving equipment or manufacturing machinery.
  • Regularly report for work on time with a desire to perform to the best of your abilities.
  • Comply with all company employment policies, procedures/processes, and programs.
