The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, or other stock items and distribute items to production areas, and assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets. Additionally, the role requires marking materials with identifying information, opening bales, crates, and other containers, and recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed. The Material Handler will weigh or count items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standards, transport stored items within the warehouse, and load and unload trailers of palletized and non-palletized product using manual and automated material handling equipment. Safety and hygiene are paramount, requiring adherence to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection, keeping the work area clean, and removing trash. Aisles and exits must be kept clear and free from obstructions. The role also includes following instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights, identifying/reporting defective equipment, and reporting all job-related injuries to supervision. Documentation is key, involving taking photos of incoming or outgoing loads and logging items and pictures. The Material Handler will use a computer to enter records and may be required to climb and work at heights of material tanks or climb on top or into tank trailers to check seals and take samples. Cycle count inventory of all merchandise may also be part of the duties. Mandatory overtime may be required, and support and participation in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S are expected. Other duties may be performed as required.
