About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for loading and unloading trucks, moving materials, tools, equipment, and supplies using forklifts. This role involves receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing materials, as well as maintaining inventory records. The position also includes preparing materials for shipment, managing scrap/salvage, and performing routine clerical and computer tasks. The Material Handler will work with plant personnel to ensure proper control of tools and materials and operate equipment such as forklifts and platform trucks. Dependability, responsibility, basic math skills, regular attendance, and diligent work habits are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proficient in basic computer skills
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Passed or be able to pass equipment certifications, i.e. forklift training.
  • Must be dependable
  • Willing to accept responsibility
  • Performs basic math functions
  • Regular attendance and diligent work habits required

Responsibilities

  • Loads and unloads trucks and moves materials, tools, equipment and supplies to and from site warehouse and staging areas using forklifts.
  • Accepts materials returned or removed from service.
  • Receives, unpacks, identifies, and inspects, marks and stores materials, tools, supplies and equipment.
  • Issues or stages requested materials, tools, supplies and equipment, and maintains appropriate records.
  • Takes samples of received material requiring tests and forwards to laboratory (where applicable).
  • Prepares materials, tools, supplies and equipment inventories.
  • Visually inspects tools for safety requirements, completeness of accessories and operability upon receipt.
  • Recognizes minimum requirements and identifies shortages and reorders internally as required.
  • Prepares materials, tools, supplies and equipment for shipment and prepares documents.
  • Prepares and stages material for scrap or salvage as directed.
  • Receives materials returned or removed from service and makes the appropriate determination for usable, reconditioning or scrap.
  • Performs routine clerical and computer tasks in support of primary duties as required.
  • Works with plant personnel and procedures to assure control of tools and materials for storage and field use.
  • Operates equipment such as forklifts, platforms trucks and automobiles to transport tools, material, and equipment to the plant.
  • Performs all duties in a safe manner.
  • Practices good housekeeping, keeping work areas in good order.
