About The Position

The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking and distributing material and products within the establishment. This role involves reading production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. The Material Handler will transport materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or to other designated areas, and sort and place materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code. They will also fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials or other stock items and distribute items to production areas, and assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets. Additionally, the role requires marking materials with identifying information, opening bales, crates, and other containers, and recording amounts of materials or items received or distributed. The Material Handler will weigh or count items for distribution within the plant to ensure conformance to company standards, and transport stored items within the warehouse. Loading and unloading trailers of palletized and non-palletized product using manual and automated material handling equipment is also a key responsibility. The position requires practicing and adhering to appropriate safety and hygiene guidelines/procedures for safe housekeeping and personal protection, keeping the work area clean and removing trash, and keeping work area aisles/exits clear and free from obstructions. Following instructions for safe lifting/carrying of various sizes, shapes, and weights, and identifying/reporting defective equipment are essential. The role also involves reporting all job-related injuries to supervision, taking photos of incoming or outgoing loads and logging items and pictures for documentation, and using a computer to enter records. Where applicable, the Material Handler may climb and work at the heights of material tanks, and may climb on top or into tank trailers to check seals and take samples. Preparing and taking a cycle count inventory of all merchandise and recording counts on cycle count sheets may also be required. Mandatory overtime may be required. The role supports and participates in Continuous Improvement initiatives including 5S (sort, set, shine, standardize, and sustain). May perform other duties as required.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED and/or 1-year production experience in a manufacturing environment required.
Previous experience with Oracle or similar based WMS system
A minimum of 1 year experience in a warehouse position

Nice To Haves

Previous forklift experience is preferred.
