About The Position

Material Handlers of Linen, under the direction of Supply Chain Management, receive, store, collect, track, and transport linen (sterile, clean, and/or soiled) throughout SJMHS, including off-site clinic and satellite locations. This role requires working effectively with teams, independently, efficiently, and safely. The position routinely utilizes computers, tracking software, handheld units, and associated Supply Chain equipment. There may be assigned linen delivery routes requiring the operation of a cargo truck, which must be done safely and in accordance with all Michigan driving laws. Driving responsibilities include performing Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI), monitoring the truck's physical condition, and refueling. A complete understanding and demonstrated proficiency of all area work tasks are expected.

  • Current MI Driver's License Required
  • Prioritize assigned tasks and organize work.
  • Ability to use and read a platform scale and perform basic mathematical calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Transports and delivers equipment, linen, scrubs, and supplies to all user departments from the supply holding area.
  • Responsible for unit inventories and coordination of linens to assure adequate daily par levels and supply needs.
  • Works closely with Receiving Dock Handlers to coordinate the flow of supplies, linen, and equipment to all user departments.
  • Assists in unloading Co-op laundry trucks and transports clean linen to the clean linen holding area.
  • Prepares unit-specific clean linen exchange carts following the prescribed schedule and par level.
  • Delivers clean linen exchange carts to specific department locations.
  • Collects soiled linen daily from SJMHS units and transports to the dock.
  • Transfers soiled linen from SJMHS collection carts to Co-op laundry carts in preparation for transport to Co-op Laundry.
  • Places linen replenishment orders with Co-op Laundry.
  • Operates the freight elevator to transport supplies to and from designated areas.
  • Maintains required distribution records.
  • Answers the telephone, responds to routine inquiries, and maintains good Customer Service.
  • Operates SJMHS truck to transport linen to off-site clinics and satellite locations.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance Inspections (PMI), monitors the physical condition of the truck, and fills the truck with gas.
  • Operates a power industrial type pallet jack to transport heavy supplies throughout SJMHS.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
  • Approaches conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Helps to identify problems, offers solutions, and participates in their resolution.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital.
  • Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
