As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll discover meaningful work that makes a positive impact on a global scale. Join our colleagues in bringing our Mission to life every single day to enable our customers to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We provide our global teams with the resources needed to achieve individual career goals while helping to take science a step beyond by developing solutions for some of the world’s toughest challenges, like protecting the environment, making sure our food is safe or helping find cures for cancer. Location/Division Specific Information: This position supports the Microbiology Division through the Central Distribution Center (CDC) located within the Meritex cave system in Lenexa, KS near the intersection of Hwy. K-10 and Ridgeview Rd. Not only is the facility in an underground location, but much of the work is performed within refrigerated coolers, requiring proper attire. How Will You Make an Impact?: You, along with your teammates, will be responsible for shipping medical testing supplies to hospitals, clinics and elsewhere on time every day. These testing supplies are critical for healthcare workers to diagnose illnesses in their patients. If testing supplies are unavailable, patients must wait to begin treatment plans in scenarios where time is rarely an ally. A Day in the Life: Each day begins with a (Tier I) meeting where site leadership reviews yesterday's team performance, details expectations for the upcoming day, makes announcements, etc. Following the morning meeting, team members take packets of orders from the Shipping Desk and walk through the warehouse with wheeled wire carts collecting products to fill the orders. It's imperative that the right products from the right bins in the right quantities, etc. are picked to fulfill the orders. A good chunk of the day is spent standing at a packing station boxing up orders to ship out parcel primarily by FedEx Ground and Express, but there are exceptions requested from customers notated on the pick slips. It's crucial that special shipping instructions are followed accurately. With time, experience and training, it will also be expected that this position be able to confirm orders (i.e. checking the accuracy from the pickers), pull larger pallet orders and potentially load trailers with a forklift. Education: High school diploma or equivalent required along with the ability to read English. Good math skills are also a plus.
