About The Position

This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a forklift to move materials and finished products within the warehouse. The role involves reading work orders, loading and unloading trailers, maintaining equipment logs, and adhering to all safety and environmental policies. The Material Handler will also assist with documentation, product segregation, and ensuring a smooth workflow. This is a 2nd shift position with a work schedule of 2PM - 10:30PM.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Lift truck license required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and convey instructions or information.
  • Ability to add and subtract numbers and to multiply and divide fractions.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and size.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move more than 35 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Be capable of productivity in a diverse range of environments.
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Able to work in a team setting.

Responsibilities

  • Read work orders or follow instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Demonstrate safe operation of a lift truck and possess a valid tow motor license.
  • Move materials from storage or work site to designated area.
  • Follow good housekeeping practices, ensuring raw materials/supplies are placed properly on pallets.
  • Remove straps as needed.
  • Stack finished product neatly in the warehouse with no damage and ensure good housekeeping practices as directed by the warehouse lead shippers.
  • Empty trash cans and dumpsters daily in respective departments.
  • Ensure that all forklift PM and battery change logs are filled out daily and that the equipment is in proper working condition.
  • Inspect the inside of truck trailers to ensure no damage or contamination prior to loading.
  • Pull product and load trailers for shipment per shipping requirements.
  • Complete Shipping /Receiving Documentation where required.
  • Participate in the segregation and identification of non-conforming product.
  • Work with line personnel to ensure smooth flow of finished product.
  • Relieve personnel for breaks as required.
  • Cover opposite-shift vacations.
  • Keep informed of the latest OSHA and related safety procedures for the proper operation of the forklift.
  • Follow all known safety procedures for the safe handling of batteries during changes and charging.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures and observe the operations to ensure a safe environment.
  • Uphold Site and Corporate Environmental Policies by following all Environmental Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Ensure compliance to meet the expectation of our customers.
  • Understand and follow Hazard Materials Regulations 49 CFR Part 172.704 (a)(1) General awareness/familiarization training, (a)(3) Safety training, and (a)(4) Security awareness training.
