About The Position

The Material Control Planner II at Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems, Inc. (SEWS) is responsible for procuring mass production raw material for the wire harness business as needed. The role aims to balance physical inventory and prevent production line shutdowns. This involves reviewing the entire supply pipeline, considering purchase order cancellations, push-outs, urgent orders, and normal orders to maintain a steady supply without exceeding inventory goals. The planner must communicate effectively with assigned vendors regarding purchase orders, backorders, forecasts, expedite requests, and delivery issues. A key responsibility includes the weekly review, release, and interpretation of forecast and backorder reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 3-5 years of progressive experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of warehouse operations required.
  • Effective analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Negotiating skills are a must.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excel proficiency is a must.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines.
  • Positive attitude and team personality.
  • Some travel required (Domestic and International).

Responsibilities

  • Review, release, and interpret forecast information to the assigned vendor base.
  • Review backorders and issue Supplier Delivery Non Conformance and Payment Deduction Notices to the vendor base.
  • Provide consistent responses to Plant and Warehouse SPCLs regarding material status, including ETA and Plant DOH based on ship history.
  • Support MC and other departments with pending supplier invoice payments related to late or lack of delivery, receiving discrepancies, and supplier discrepancies.
  • Inform production plants of material arrivals and advise of any potential production problems.
  • Generate forecast reports, inventory reports, obsolescence control reports, downtime reports, and others as needed.
  • Follow up on requested activities such as setting meetings with suppliers, resolving discrepancy issues, and addressing invoice issues.
  • Request effective countermeasures from suppliers for repetitive issues like delivery problems and backorders.
  • Assign carriers (FedEx/UPS/DHL) when expediting shipments.
  • Track and follow up on shipments to avoid plant downtime.
  • Adapt to flexible work schedules based on supplier operational hours.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites as needed for communication and streamlining production phases (0-5 days per week).
  • Utilize Problem Solving Techniques, including Kaizen Focus.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
