About The Position

This role is responsible for overseeing material control teams, ensuring safety, quality, cost, and schedule adherence. The Material Control Foreman will manage supervisors, coordinate material flow, maintain inventory accuracy, and contribute to shipbuilding projects. This position requires strong leadership, organizational skills, and a deep understanding of material management processes within an industrial setting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, or Business-related field preferred, and or Equivalent experience
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in shipyards with shipbuilding production or ship repair
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in business with manufacturing of heavy steel structures
  • 3+ years’ professional experience in production of pressure vessels, boilers & other quality products
  • Experience with automated production lines
  • Experience in leading Supervisors and production teams
  • Understand blueprints, 3-D drawings and technical documents
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety rules and procedures
  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, both written and verbally

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety of all personnel in the Yard, including subcontractors, in accordance with CORE principles.
  • Ensure all HPSI safety procedures, rules, and regulations are followed and met.
  • Provide leadership, instruction, and control of material control teams.
  • Motivate Supervisors.
  • Take responsibility for quality standards, costs, and schedule completion.
  • Provide daily feedback on work progress to the Department Manager.
  • Ensure optimal work organization.
  • Review and issue planned target hours to Supervisors.
  • Establish and maintain shift turnover meetings with Supervisors.
  • Receive material on schedule, unload, inspect, and store it at predefined locations.
  • Add Bar Codes to material where information is missing.
  • Report any shortages in a timely fashion and generate reorder requests.
  • Set up and coordinate floor stock locations around workshops for regular replenishment of high consumption items and small materials.
  • Issue material as per planned order to production and retrieve unused material for restock.
  • Follow procedures for material handling, receiving, storage, and replenishment.
  • Assist with the computer system/program for controlling all material transactions, including testing and initiating necessary changes.
  • Accomplish FTZ (foreign trade zone) requirements for material management.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Production, Planning, and Design Departments on material management and create a JIT approach for material issue.
  • Participate in shipbuilding projects and provide status reports on assigned tasks.
  • Generate regular reports on all material transactions in the shipyard.
  • Continue developing the material control department, including employment and training of personnel.
  • Communicate with Custom Clearance Agent and handle deliveries for all incoming material, expediting deliveries as needed.
  • Work closely with HPSI production supervisors and Turnkey Coordinator to create a JIT material issue approach.
  • Understand budgets and forecast man hours.
  • Verify and ensure maximum employee utilization through effective working hours.
  • Identify performance issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
