The KIPP Master Teacher at KIPP Kansas City is a high-impact instructional leader who drives academic excellence by modeling exceptional teaching, mentoring a select group of teachers, and leading grade-level alignment. This role is designed for an expert educator with deep content knowledge, a strong record of student success, and the ability to influence instructional practice beyond their own classroom. Master Teachers serve as content specialists, model KIPP KC academic strategy and expectations, and help ensure coherence in instruction, planning, and assessment across the grade level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid Missouri teaching certification, or ability to obtain.
  • Minimum of 4–5 years of demonstrated success in classroom teaching with strong student achievement results.
  • Minimum of 3 years of evidence of high academic growth and/or academic achievement in the classroom or content area.
  • Proven ability to coach or lead adults, with formal or informal leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently deliver rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that leads to strong student learning outcomes.
  • Model KIPP KC academic strategy, including lesson internalization, data-driven instruction, and high expectations for student engagement and achievement.
  • Open the classroom for observation, demonstration lessons, and peer learning opportunities.
  • Develop and refine exemplary unit and lesson plans aligned to school and network expectations.
  • Mentor and coach a select group of teachers, typically 2–5, focused on instructional growth and student outcomes.
  • Provide regular, actionable feedback through observation, co-planning, and data analysis.
  • Support teachers in implementing high-quality curriculum and assessments with fidelity.
  • Build trust-based relationships that accelerate teacher development and retention.
  • Serve as grade level chair and lead grade-level team meetings focused on planning, data analysis, and instructional alignment.
  • Ensure consistency in pacing, rigor, and expectations across classrooms.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning cycles and assessment calibration.
  • Partner with school leadership to address grade-level trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Serve as a content expert within the school, ensuring alignment to standards and best practices.
  • Support vertical alignment and collaboration across grade levels where applicable.
  • Analyze student data to identify gaps and adjust instructional strategies.
  • Contribute to school-wide and network-wide academic initiatives.
  • Reinforce KIPP KC’s commitment to high expectations, strong relationships, and inclusive classrooms.

  • Deliver high-quality, rigorous instruction directly connected to authentic, real-world learning experiences that promote college persistence, career exploration, and workforce readiness for all KIPPsters.
  • Lead and facilitate transformative student experiences, including class-connected projects, professional mentorships, internships, and shadowing opportunities that bridge the classroom and the community.
  • Teach a minimum of one to two courses explicitly aligned with KIPP KC’s Real-World Learning initiatives, consistently integrating applied learning and interdisciplinary cognitive skills into daily instruction.
  • Actively collaborate with students, staff, and regional industry partners to design meaningful learning experiences that provide students with professional exposure and measurable real-world outcomes.
  • Organize and lead quarterly RWL Showcases at each grade level, providing a platform for KIPPsters to demonstrate their mastery, present their projects to community partners, and celebrate applied learning growth.
  • Use student performance data and feedback from industry partners to continuously refine RWL experiences, ensuring they meet KIPP KC’s standards for academic excellence and 21st-century skill development.
