About The Position

Design and direct the construction and operation of water/drainage projects: water works, sewage, garbage/trash disposal, drainage systems, and insects and rodent control. Supervise the activities of the plumbing staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Master Plumber License
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
  • Knowledge of plumbing codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
  • Ability to use hand and power tools
  • Three years’ experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Clear driving record

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret plumbing blueprints.
  • Review and comply with plumbing codes and the characteristics of all types of pipe fittings and tubing.
  • Apply mechanical reasoning to correctly diagnose all plumbing issues.
  • Weld and solder connections on metal pipes.
  • Analyze the sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs.
  • Modify and install new lines, seals, and leaking joints.
  • Replace defective pipe and fitting; repair plumbing fixtures; open clogged drains; repair broken and leaking pipes; and cut, thread, and bend pipes.
  • Fit and seal valves, couplings and other fittings to pipe sections.
  • Clean or direct other workers to clean boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Inspect and repair boiler fittings such as safety valves, regulators, automatic control mechanisms, and water columns and auxiliary machines such as pumps, draft fans, stokers, and burners.
  • Replace damaged boiler tubes and plates.
  • Repair or replace high pressure piping boiler insulation with cement and paint surface of equipment.
  • Perform water pressure test by pumping water into system to determine location of leaks.
  • Remove and replace defective firebrick.
  • Detect and remove rodent and offensive animals from buildings and grounds.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to emergencies after hours.
  • Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and immediately report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor.
  • Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals to the community and solicit community support.
