About The Position

Music plays a sacred and central role in worship and in the mission of the Church. As a Master Piano/Keyboard Technician, you will help preserve and elevate that legacy by ensuring the highest quality care of some of the most iconic and historically significant instruments in the world. This is a rare opportunity to apply master-level technical expertise in a setting where craftsmanship, reverence, and musical excellence truly matter. Working alongside the Master Organ Technician, you will support The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square and Church musicians by maintaining, preserving, and preparing instruments used in worship services, broadcasts, concerts, and global events. This position is more than technical work—it is stewardship. You will help preserve sacred instruments, support inspired music, and enable worship experiences that reach a global audience.

Requirements

  • Professional certification such as RPT and/or AIO, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of factory and/or field experience
  • Master-level piano tuning and technical servicing skills
  • Knowledge of electronic keyboards and celesta
  • Strong mechanical and carpentry aptitude
  • Physical ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders and walk narrow walk-boards
  • Capable of independently and frequently lifting and positioning objects as much as 50 pounds and lifting instruments safely; on occasion lifting up to 100 pounds.
  • A basic understanding of rigging and pullies is helpful
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with pipe organ and harpsichord service
  • Bachelor’s degree helpful but not required

Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct expert-level tuning, tonal regulation, preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and technical upgrades of all pianos and other keyboard instruments
  • Maintain detailed logs, records, and historical documentation
  • Prepare and manage lifecycle plans for pianos, including budget estimates and replacement schedules
  • Support high-profile events such as General Conference, broadcasts, concerts, and special services
  • Assist with instrument setup and movement, including large instruments
  • Maintain replacement-parts inventory and coordinate reorders
  • Assist in overseeing and evaluating contracted technicians
  • Stay current with industry techniques and innovations
  • Assist with maintenance and tuning of pipe organs on Temple Square
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
