About The Position

Re:Build Manufacturing New Kensington is seeking a highly innovative and hands-on rapid prototyping leader to manage their lab. This role is for an individual who can transform concepts into reality quickly and efficiently. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and possesses a strong drive to create and innovate. This position offers significant autonomy, a well-equipped workshop, and the opportunity to define processes and lead a team in a fast-paced environment focused on revitalizing US manufacturing.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building physical objects, potentially in aerospace, robotics, consumer products, or personal projects.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion, Rhino).
  • Experience with CAM software.
  • Demonstrated shop-floor ingenuity.
  • Comfort working with limited input and figuring out solutions independently.
  • Experience leading teams or labs, or a strong readiness to step into such a role.
  • Deep understanding of various materials (metals, plastics, composites) and fabrication methods.
  • Ability to act with urgency, take responsibility for outcomes, and view constraints as opportunities.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum due to export control regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Transform vague ideas, scribbles, or detailed drawings into real, working prototypes.
  • Select appropriate methods, machines, and materials for prototyping without requiring explicit permission.
  • Operate and maintain various prototyping equipment including 3D printers (FDM/SLA), CNC machines, mills, and lathes.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of hands-on engineers and technicians.
  • Collaborate effectively with designers, engineers, and manufacturing leaders.
  • Manage the workshop operations, including budgets, safety, uptime, and material procurement, akin to running a startup.
  • Create first articles, jigs, fixtures, test rigs, and concept models.
  • Establish and maintain high standards for quality, speed, and creative problem-solving within the lab.
