About The Position

The Master Mobile Equipment Technician performs essential maintenance and repair tasks for motor vehicles, tractors, trailers, generators, and small engines. This role involves conducting routine service duties, inspecting vehicle conditions for safety, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The Technician will also stay updated on technology and attend training as necessary to maintain skills. Perform other duties as assigned to support other technicians. In this role, your day will involve a dynamic mix of shop and fieldwork. You will lead the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles, including backhoes and semis, as well as light equipment like small engines and cars. Much of your time will be spent diagnosing complex issues, overseeing repairs, and ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and safely. You will also collaborate with other technicians, mentor junior staff, and engage in ongoing training to stay current with industry advancements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Associate Degree in Automotive/Diesel Technology (or equivalent) or a combination of formal education and extensive field experience.
  • Extensive Repair History: 7+ years of increasingly responsible experience diagnosing and repairing a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Documented success in resolving advanced mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
  • Broad Fleet Experience: Familiarity with advanced diagnostics software for engine control modules and telematics systems.
  • Proven ability to service heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, emergency vehicles.
  • Project & Team Leadership: Track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated success in training, coaching, or supervising less experienced mechanics.
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • Class “A” commercial driver’s license.
  • Multiple ASE certifications (Master Technician status) or equivalent recognized credentials.
  • Advanced Mechanical Systems: Extensive knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, including multi-system diagnostics (fuel injection, turbochargers, electronic controls).
  • Proficiency with advanced transmission work (manual, automatic, CVT), differentials, drivetrains, and specialized components.
  • Electrical & Computerized Diagnostics: Expertise in using sophisticated diagnostic tools and software to identify and resolve complex electrical and electronic issues.
  • Ability to interpret advanced wiring diagrams, ECM codes, and system calibration data.
  • Complex Repair & Rebuild Expertise: Skilled in engine rebuilds, clutch replacements, transmission overhauls, and specialized repairs.
  • Competence in hydraulic/pneumatic system diagnostics and repair.
  • Advanced Tools & Equipment: Proficient in welding, fabrication, and custom modifications.
  • Experienced in operating heavy shop equipment (presses, alignment racks, brake lathes) and specialized diagnostic machines.
  • Safety & Compliance Leadership: Thorough understanding of OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations; able to train others on compliance and best practices.
  • Demonstrated commitment to shop safety.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications from recognized organizations (ASE, OEM-specific training) are highly desirable.
  • Completion of specialized training programs related to advanced vehicle systems (hybrid/electric vehicle technology).

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced maintenance and repair of all corporate vehicles and support equipment safely and on time.
  • Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to evaluate roadworthiness and address defects in compliance with Department of Transportation standards.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure timely repairs and minimize equipment downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinate with vendors for parts and supplies and ensure inventory is maintained.
  • Refuel vehicles and operate the corporate refueling station efficiently.
  • Retrieve and deliver various materials, supplies, and automotive components as directed.
  • Develop best practices for equipment maintenance and repair to share with the team.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure equipment meets operational needs and regulatory standards.
  • Stay current with technology and practices relevant to vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to ensure skill levels meet job requirements.
  • Participate in safety training and adhere to all safety protocols in shop and field environments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair.
  • Provide guidance on troubleshooting techniques and the use of shop equipment to less experienced technicians.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to enhance team performance and efficiency.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and responses as directed.
  • Participate in a minimum of two H.O.P.E. events totaling at least eight (8) hours annually.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Assist with additional tasks as needed by the team.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
