About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Fleet Management Division of the General Services Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Master Mechanic III is primarily responsible for diagnosing and repairing heavy trucks and equipment, estimating repair costs, writing service orders, and providing other employees with on-the-job training related to heavy truck and equipment maintenance and repair.

Requirements

• Possession of a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL).
• Possession of a current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Medium-Heavy Truck Master Mechanic Certification.
• Employees are responsible for providing their own hand tools suitable for performing work on heavy trucks and equipment if required by the department.
• The employee will be required to possess or obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
• The employee will be required to possess or obtain an ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Master Mechanic certification within twenty-four (24) months of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.

Nice To Haves

• If an individual is selected who does not possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver License and ASE Medium-Heavy Truck Master Mechanic certification, that individual will be classified as a Mechanic I and compensated at the Mechanic I salary range of that classification until such time as all required licensures and certifications are obtained within the timeframes specified above.

Responsibilities

• Applying knowledge and principles of heavy truck and equipment mechanics.
• Diagnosing and providing repair services for various equipment malfunctions.
• Performing major repairs on gasoline and diesel automotive equipment.
• Utilizing knowledge of mechanics, methods, tools, and techniques to repair fleet vehicles and equipment.
• Exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment.
• Communicating effectively to convey repair updates, costs, and technical information to inquiring City employees and co-workers.
• Providing on-the-job training related to heavy truck and equipment maintenance and repair.
• Performing other duties as assigned.
