About The Position

The Master Gardener provides basic care for the greenhouse and basic landscaping around the Salina West Campus. This role involves maintaining greenhouse and garden operations, performing landscaping duties, applying approved chemicals, and ensuring the proper care of equipment. A significant aspect of the role is client interaction, requiring at least 50% of time spent in direct activity and contact with clients, including coaching, mentoring, and supervising them during horticulture and landscaping activities. The position also emphasizes providing structure, discipline, and positive role modeling in a therapeutic work environment, supporting skill-building and engagement. Safety, crisis response, and behavior management are crucial, as is accurate documentation and communication of client interactions and incidents. The Master Gardener must adhere to all company policies, regulatory requirements, and ensure the protection of client rights.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Completion of Saint Francis Approved Evidence-Based Intervention (EBI).
Must be 21 years of age.
Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
Must pass an FBI Fingerprint Check.
Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Must be able to perform moderate to strenuous activities for at least 2 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

Two years of experience in landscaping and gardening.

Responsibilities

Maintains greenhouse and garden operations, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment.
Performs landscaping duties including mowing, raking, trimming, irrigation, weeding, fertilizing, and planting in garden and flower bed areas.
Applies approved chemicals and maintains plant health in accordance with safety standards.
Ensures proper care, use, and maintenance of equipment, tools, and supplies.
Ensure at least 50% or more of time is spent in direct activity and contact with clients.
Coaches, mentors, and supervises clients during horticulture and landscaping activities.
Provides structure, discipline, and positive role modeling in a therapeutic work environment for individual and group activities with residential clients.
Supports skill-building, responsibility, and engagement through hands-on activities.
Provides structure, discipline, and security in meeting the needs of the clients while they are working with the plants and landscaping around the campus.
Maintains a safe environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
Responds to crises using approved EBI.
Promotes safe work practices and environmental safety standards.
Documents client behaviors, interactions, and significant incidents accurately and timely.
Communicates concerns and reports incidents through appropriate channels.
Works scheduled shifts and maintains reliability in attendance.
Follows all Saint Francis Ministries policies, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.
Ensures protection of client rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
Adheres to all safety, licensing, and accreditation standards.
