About The Position

The Master Electrician is responsible for planning and supervising electrical installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy civil construction and energy projects. This person shall serve as the responsible Master Electrician for electrical operations and supervise electrical work performed, ensuring all installations comply with the National Electrical Code (NEC), state regulations, local standards, project specifications, and company safety standards. The Master Electrician provides leadership to electrical crews, coordinates with project management, and ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

Requirements

  • Current Texas Master Electrician License in good standing.
  • Minimum 8+ years of commercial, industrial, or heavy civil electrical experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of supervisory experience leading electrical crews.
  • Extensive knowledge of the current NEC.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, specifications, and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with heavy civil construction projects.
  • Experience with roadway lighting, traffic signals, pump stations, water/wastewater facilities, or bridge electrical systems.
  • Experience with low, medium and high voltage distribution systems.
  • Power generation experience.
  • Knowledge of PLC controls, instrumentation, and motor controls.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and supervise electrical construction activities.
  • Supervise and review electrical systems, equipment, controls, lighting, power distribution systems, generators, and related components.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, specifications, and one-line diagrams and three line-diagrams.
  • Ensure all electrical work complies with: All applicable federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, regulations, codes, and standards; OSHA regulations; Company safety policies; Project specifications.
  • Lead, train, mentor, and supervise journeyman electricians, apprentices, and electrical helpers.
  • Perform inspections and quality control reviews to ensure installations meet required standards.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and develop effective solutions with minimal project disruption.
  • Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, inspections, permits, testing records, and as-built drawings.
  • Assist with estimating electrical work and reviewing project plans during preconstruction when requested.
  • Ensure lockout/tagout procedures and other safe work practices are consistently followed.
  • Support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover of completed electrical systems.
  • May serve as the designated Master Electrician in support of company electrical contracting operations, where applicable.
