About The Position

This is the highest skilled level position in the electrical trade area. This position works with no supervision on all assigned work on the campus. This position plans, schedules, assigns, supervises, inspects and assists in the work of other electricians. This position also supervises and may participate in the testing, replacement and repair of defective or worn out electrical systems and equipment by performing a myriad of duties.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Necessary experience required to be licensed as a Master Electrician.
  • Licensed by the State of Colorado as a Master Electrician.
  • Must possess a valid Colorado Drivers License and be insurable under University guidelines.
  • Expert skill, competency and knowledge in electrical fields/functions. Knowledge of all types of electrical equipment and standard methods, practices, tools and materials of the electrical trade.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions of the trade, electrical codes, and principles of practical electricity. Must be knowledgeable of related OSHA and EPA regulations and be able to effectively communicate regulations to others.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical exam, and lift 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to read and interpret documents such as material safety data sheets, operating manuals, and work orders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with University customers (students, staff, faculty and visitors)
  • Basic math skills required when measuring, and performing take offs for miscellaneous jobs.
  • Detailed procedures. Daily priorities are established by the employee. Employee responds to situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Expert skills. Competency in electrical fields/functions. Knowledge of standardized work routines and the ability to follow or give oral/written instructions involving a number of steps. Ability to read, interpret, and work from sketches, penciled layouts and complex blueprints.
  • Acts as foreman of shop in foreman's absence.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar working with CMMS software, including WebTMA or similar work order system.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses and trouble shoots existing wiring systems.
  • Works on electrical systems that are 600 volts and less.
  • Instructs, leads, supervises and inspects work of lesser skilled tradesmen.
  • Keeps records and makes reports on work accomplished.
  • Meets with outside contractors for DU projects.
  • Orders material from electrical supply houses.
  • Advises administrative officials on electrical projects.
  • Has thorough knowledge of DUs electrical specifications and is able to communicate these effectively.
  • Opens and closes work orders on the computerized work order system.
  • Directs the work of other building maintenance or electrical shop workers.
  • Drives to sites with tools and equipment.
