About The Position

As our Master Control Switcher, you will monitor multiple outgoing feeds across Canada for technical and programming issues, addressing them accordingly. This role is crucial for ensuring our feeds run smoothly. You will be responsible for operating an automation system and a small production switcher. This is an On Call opportunity with shift timings of 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, and 10pm-6am, requiring you to be onsite at our Oakville location. On Call means there are no guaranteed hours, and you will be contacted as needed to cover shifts.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Broadcast or Communications and a minimum of 1-year experience in a Master Control environment is preferred.
  • Good understanding of technical broadcast equipment including Ross Carbonite Switcher, Widepath automation systems, Evertz router, and MVP monitoring system.
  • Experience with automation systems.
  • Good technical understanding of audio/video equipment.
  • Knowledge of broadcasting standards and systems.
  • Ability to monitor feeds for technical quality using waveform, vectorscope, and VU meters.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor all of The Weather Network's & MeteoMedia television feeds ensuring technical standards are met and TWN/MM procedures are followed.
  • Respond to any scheduling irregularities in the automation system promptly and advise appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Promptly troubleshoot on-air issues.
  • Routing of various live video and audio sources.
  • Record or ingest live programming segments and ensure they are sent to the appropriate areas (automation system schedule, Video server, or Archives).
  • Work with Engineering staff to report any technical issues that may arise.
  • Monitor and operate automation system.
  • Operate Ross Carbonite 1 ME switcher & Yamaha audio mixer.
  • Access and supply source for Social Media live feeds (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) as per instruction from Social Media Producers.
  • Ensure all collaborative work needs are met, specifically live on-air hits and recording off-air features.
