About The Position

WPXI TV Pittsburgh is looking for a Master Control Switcher to operate video/audio switchers, tape recorders, video servers, computer-based automation, satellite equipment, and other duties as assigned by management. The scope of the role includes adherence to FCC rules and regulations and complete compliance with station policies. This position will be required to work overnights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in a related field, or equal practical experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office and similar applications.
  • Ability to work with electronic equipment and present a smooth and complete on-air look.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • FCC or SBE certification desired.
  • Switching, tape editing, advanced computer operations, and basic maintenance skills are preferred.
  • One-year master control experience is preferred.
  • Specific knowledge of satellite transmission & reception.
  • Operation of Harris Automation.
  • Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of over the air broadcasting.

Responsibilities

  • Play to air pre-recorded and live program material.
  • Operate local breaks from a program log including commercials, promos, and station I.D.'s.
  • Operate Harris Automation and Grass Valley video servers.
  • Record all satellite transmissions as indicated, ensure recording quality to the highest technical standards, and ensure all recordings are properly entered into the automation system for playback.
  • Dub commercials, promos, and stations ID’s into a format capable of being played to air, while maintaining the highest technical standards.
  • Complete all discrepancy and maintenance reports promptly as necessary with stated reasons and resolutions.
  • Work as a team to maintain a clean on-air presence, focusing on newscasts as the most important live product.
  • Ensure the BOC is staffed at all times and in communication with the Production crew during live productions.
  • Handle more than one task at a time and establish a priority of operations in a multi-program environment.
  • Solve technical or procedural problems as needed and know when to ask for help.
  • Accurately complete all reports and present and share information with other station employees.
  • Adhere to WPXI’s Employee Code of Conduct.
  • Make decisions responsible for the on-air presentation of the station and decisions affecting the on-air presentation.
  • Operate all general office machines.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and maintain an awareness of station goals.
