About The Position

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) is seeking motivated college and university students for its Police Department's Student Intern Program. This program is designed for students interested in a career in law enforcement, offering a positive learning environment to gain firsthand experience in the various aspects and responsibilities of law enforcement. Interns will support the Massport Police Department's mission to protect maritime transportation infrastructure, ensure public safety, and comply with federal security mandates. Responsibilities will be structured to provide meaningful exposure to enforcement operations, appropriate to the intern's status. Interns may be assigned to different units within the Department and assist with projects at headquarters.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university.
  • Must be eligible to receive academic course credit for participation in this internship.
  • Ability to work a 37.5-hour work week.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
  • Ability to pass Massport’s pre-employment-controlled substance test and background checks.
  • Ability to pass Massport security clearance and obtain a Massport Security Badge.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with administrative planning for maritime special events involving increased vessel traffic and public attendance.
  • Supporting logistics related to restricted areas, security zones, and access control points.
  • Observing Unified Command operations and interagency coordination during maritime special events.
  • Assisting with data collection, staffing matrices, and after action documentation related to Tall Ships or similar events.
  • Assist with research, data entry, and administrative projects at Massport Police Headquarters.
  • Support report organization, policy review, and training material preparation (non confidential).
  • Assist with coordination between Massport Police and partner agencies such as Massachusetts State Police Troop F and the U.S. Coast Guard.
  • Supporting Massport Police participation in public facing initiatives and maritime events.
  • Promoting transparency and understanding of law enforcement roles within maritime environments.
  • Encouraging positive interactions between law enforcement and the communities that live, work, and travel through Massport facilities.
