About The Position

The Massage Therapist provides therapeutic massage as an adjunctive therapy to patients. As part of an inter-disciplinary healthcare team, provides therapeutic massage services based upon physician orders and patient assessment. Monitors patients for effectiveness of therapy, as well as adverse reactions. Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served. Performs setup, monitoring and maintenance of equipment and supplies utilized in the provision of therapeutic massage services. Monitors safety practices in the work environment and reports areas of concern. Educates patients, families, and others about therapeutic massage-related topics. Explains procedures to patients to elicit cooperation and maximize effectiveness of procedures. Documents work activities through patient records and periodic reports as requested by management. Promotes awareness of adjunctive massage therapy services through interaction with hospital staff, physicians, patients, family members, professional organizations and community groups. Ensures personal and professional development through participation in educational activities and completion of annual competency validation. Actively participates in performance improvement activities at the department, hospital and/or Carilion Clinic level.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a state-approved massage therapy training program required.
  • None required.
  • Current Massage Therapist license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia required.
  • Positive interpersonal and oral communication skills.
  • Effective written communication skills.
  • Ability to resolve complaints or problems.
  • Ability and willingness to work as an integral member of a multi-skilled team.
  • Must be courteous, customer-focused, and exhibit integrity.
