About The Position

The primary functions of this position are to assist with the daily operation of the Mass Spec DevOps Team, to lead and implement statistical quality control procedures, and to lead interdisciplinary teams in the design and development of improvements to tests for mass spec based clinical testing at ARUP Laboratories under the direction of the Technical Director of Mass Spectrometry. This position is a mid-level staff research position and functions with a proportionally reduced amount of formal direction and commensurate increase in autonomy. Requirements

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Communicate: Frequently communicate with others.
  • PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.
  • ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the daily operation and management duties of Mass Spec DevOps group including hiring, performance reviews, budget and strategic planning.
  • Designs, plans and implements method development strategies, validations, robustness and ruggedness evaluations and oversees transfer of technical procedures to the production clinical lab.
  • Provides scientific and technical expertise, as well as business and industry knowledge, in developing and improving quality control systems and processes for mass spectrometry-based testing in the clinical lab.
  • Implements and leads statistical quality control procedures to enhance continuous improvement, and quality assurance programs.
  • Leads inter-disciplinary projects in the design, development, optimization and delivery of integrated state-of-the-art mass spectrometry-based high throughput clinical testing solutions.
  • Acts as main contact point in effectively communicating and maintaining timelines for project progression with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluates the design and performance characteristics of new mass spectrometry-based technologies, data processing software, and instrumentation for the clinical testing lab.
  • Leads project meetings for test and instrument evaluation, troubleshooting, process design, development and/or validation.
  • Serves as a mentor and trainer for Mass Spec Application Team members.
  • Performs research, stays versed with current literature, organizes and implements new mass spectrometry assays and high-throughput solutions.
  • Provides formal presentations of findings at regular lab meetings, seminars and professional meetings as well as authorship in peer reviewed journals.
  • Other duties as assigned.
