About The Position

Mascot Characters will act as the faces of Wilderness at the Smokies. They will interact with guests throughout the resort, engage in poolside games and activities and encourage participation in various resort events such as dance parties, scavenger hunts, breakfast with characters, etc. They will also represent Wilderness at the Smokies at various on and off-site community related events throughout the year.

  • Ability to read, write and interpret in-room activity forms.
  • Possess skills to speak effectively before customers or groups/organizations Wilderness at the Smokies does business with.
  • Proficiency in the English language is required in order to effectively communicate with guests/associates.
  • Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, commissions, proportions and percentages.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals is necessary in order to carry out duties such as budgeting.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral and diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations with occasional, multiple or no variables.

  • Regularly required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb and balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Use proper lifting techniques; alert to, resolving and reporting of situations, obstacles and objects that could pose safety concern for guests, associates and self.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as and embrace the character of Monty or Molly for all Wilderness related events.
  • Take care of and treat the Mascot costume with respect. This includes proper storage, cleaning (within the realm of their ability, Sales and Marketing will handle dry-cleaning opportunities), inventory of all mascot costume articles of clothing and returning the costume following each shift.
  • Distribute Wilderness at the Smokies promotional material to increase guest satisfaction throughout the resort.
  • Must have the ability to transition between indoor and outdoor climates throughout the year. Is responsible for self-monitoring during extreme heat or cold conditions and taking appropriate breaks as needed.
  • Represent Wilderness for on and off-site events during the year.
  • Provides exceptional customer service and is willing to engage with guests during activities.
  • Executes events during Holidays. Includes, but not limited to: Poolside Parties during the summer months, Easter Egg Drop/Hunt, Santa’s Workshop, New Year’s Eve Events.
  • Communicates daily to Activities Supervisor and Events Manager.
  • Follows all company policies and procedures, as well as all other duties assigned by Management.
  • Requires regular and predictable attendance. Must commit to the assigned schedule of the Mascot appearances within the year. This includes most Holidays, some evenings and most all weekends.
